Anyone Can Kick a Football. Not Everyone's Harry Kane.

Why great design is about far more than knowing how to use Canva.
There's a good chance that, as you're reading this, millions of people across the country are convinced they know exactly how England should play this weekend.
We've all kicked a football.
Some of us still do every Sunday morning.
But there's a reason Harry Kane captains England while the rest of us watch from the settee.
Knowing how to kick a football isn't the same as understanding positioning, movement, timing, decision-making and seeing opportunities before anyone else.
Graphic design has reached a very similar place.
Today, almost anyone can produce something that looks attractive.
Canva and Adobe Express have transformed design for small businesses, making it easier than ever to create professional-looking marketing materials.
AI can now generate logos, social media graphics, presentations, adverts and even entire brand identities in seconds.
And honestly?
We think that's brilliant.
Those tools have given thousands of businesses the confidence to create content themselves, something that simply wasn't possible a few years ago.
We use them ourselves. In fact, we'd encourage many of our clients to use them too.
But here's the important distinction..
Pretty isn't the same as effective.
For example:
Two cafés can use exactly the same Canva template.
One has customers queuing out of the door on Saturday morning.
The other gets twenty likes on Facebook.
The difference wasn't the template.
It was understanding who the customer was, what mattered to them and what would encourage them to walk through the door.

A graphic designer doesn't simply move boxes around a screen.
They ask questions like...
Who are you trying to attract?
What action do you want someone to take?
Where will they see this?
How long will they look at it?
What do they need to remember afterwards?
That's design.
The software is simply the pencil.
Great design isn't about making something look attractive.
It's about helping a business achieve an objective.
That objective might be attracting better customers, increasing enquiries, improving sales, building trust or simply making people remember your business.
The visuals are only part of the solution.
Design isn't decoration.
It's communication.
Harry Kane doesn't score because he owns the latest football boots.
He scores because he knows exactly where to be, when to move and how to finish.
The boots are just the tool.
Canva is no different.
Canva hasn't replaced graphic designers.
It's removed many of the repetitive tasks that used to take up valuable time.
The real value of a designer has never been knowing which buttons to press. It's understanding people, communicating ideas and solving business problems.
The software may have changed.
Good design hasn't.
Whether you're using Canva, Adobe Express, AI or a sketch on the back of an envelope, the question isn't "Can I create something that looks good?"
The better question is...
"Will it help my business grow?"
Because that's the difference between making graphics and creating effective design.
